On Tuesday, July 22, the defending champions of World Championship of Legends (WCL), Indian legends returned to competitive action after their tournament opener against Pakistan Champions, which was scheduled to be played at Edgbaston in Birminghan on Sunday, July 20, was called off due to players’ withdrawal. While they resumed their campaign on Tuesday, when they locked horns with South Africa Champions at the County Ground in Northampton.
But the Yuvraj Singh-led side did not have an outing to remember as they were handed a thrashing defeat at the hands of their Protean counterparts. The match six of the WCL 2025 saw India Champions win the toss and elect to bowl first. Inviting the AB de Villiers-led side to bat first, on the back of an unbeaten 63 from the skipper, they posted 208 runs in their stipulated overs. For India, Piyush Chawla and Yusuf Pathan scalped two wickets, whereas Abhimanyu Mithun got one to his name.

As the Men in Blue took the guards in the middle, they top-order flattered like a pack of cards. Stuart Binny finished as the top-scorer, scoring 37* off 39 at a strike rate of 94.87. As none of the veterans from the lineup could get to a decent score, an abrupt incident resulted in the officials calling-off the match.
With the fall of nine wickets and India Champions playing at 111/9 in 18.2 overs, the attention shifted towards a black smoke cloud, which covered the County Ground. The groundstaff were quick to rush towards the floodlight, one of which had been engulfed with fire and led the officials to call-off the game with DLS method coming into play and India being handed a mammoth 88-run defeat.

While the India Champions have now dropped down to the bottom-most spot in the points table with one loss and one no result, they will hope to come out good when they take on Australia Champions in match number 10 of the WCL 2025 at the Headingley in Leeds on Saturday, July 26.
