On Saturday, February 8, New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips brought up his maiden hundred in ODI cricket against hosts Pakistan during the first match of the tri-series, which also involves South Africa. The 28-year-old reached the milestone in just 72 balls after demolishing the entire Pakistan bowling lineup in the second half of the New Zealand innings at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, to help them reach 330/6 total in their allotted 50 overs.
For the unversed, after New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and decided to bat first, they lost the wickets of opening batters Will Young and Rachin Ravindra in the first power play stage. Veterans Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell shared a 95-run stand for the third wicket before losing two more batters in quick succession, which signalled the arrival of Glenn Phillips to the crease.

The right-handed batter was quite circumspect in the first half of his innings against the Pakistan spinners, reaching his fifty in 55 balls. But, from the point onwards, he smashed five maximums in the next 19 balls, to get past the three-figure score in double-quick time, taking down all comers in the bowling attack from Pakistan, which allowed New Zealand to get well past 300 runs.
Below are the playing XIs of Pakistan and New Zealand for the first ODI of the tri-series:
