India’s women’s cricket team locked horns with England on Wednesday (21 September) in the second ODI of the three-match series. The Women in Blue were invited to bat first by England captain Amy Jones after she won the toss. India did not get the best of starts as they lost Shafali Varma in the second over itself. However, Smriti Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia stitched a half-century stand and avoided any further damage.

But Bhatia could not last long enough as she perished to Charlotte Dean. With this wicket, out came India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The captain and vice-captain steadied the ship for a while but Mandhana fell ten runs shy of her half-century as she was trapped LBW by Sophie Ecclestone. Then came Harleen Deol to bat alongside Kaur. The young batter showed great determination to score a half-century (her maiden) and stitch a 113-run partnership with the captain.

She also perished after scoring a handy 58 (72). Meanwhile, captain Kaur was looking in great touch as she got to her half-century with a six. Although wickets kept falling, Kaur maintained the scoring rate and eventually reached her 5th ODI ton in 100 balls. But this was not it from Kaur as the Indian captain put on her beast mode and scored 43 runs off next 11 balls to propel India to a massive 333/5 in their 50 overs.
