On Monday morning (August 18), Neymar Jr starring Santos suffered one of the worst defeats in their footballing presence, where they were thrashed 6-0 by Vasco da Gama at the Urbano Caldeira in Santos. In the game, which a brace coming off Philippe Coutino and other goals from Lucas Piton, David Fonseca, Rayan and Danilo Neves - helped the Vasco da Gama secure a comfortable win.
While it was a tough one for the Santos side, their star player and Brazilian legend Neymar Jr was seen visibly upset. What is being considered as the 33-year-old most humiliating defeat in his career, was left in distraught as he broke down in tears at full-time. Neymar, who extended his stay at Santos recently, was visibly emotional as he was being approached by several members of the coaching staff.

I feel ashamed…: Neymar Jr after Santos’ defeat
The defeat came in high-stakes match, Neymar opened up after the game, feeling “ashamed” of the same. “I’m ashamed. I’m totally disappointed with our performance. The fans have every right to protest, obviously without using violence….. But if they want to curse and insult, they’re in their right,” Neymar said.
“It’s a feeling of extreme shame. I’ve never experienced this in my life. Unfortunately, I can’t help in every way. Anyway, it was total s*** that’s the reality,” he added. Following the defeat, the club also sacked coach Cleber Xavier. "Santos Futebol Clube announces the departure of coach Cleber Xavier. The club thanks the coach for his services and wishes him luck in his future career," Santos said in a statement posted on social media.
The defeat, which was tenth loss for the club this season from 19 games, are now just two points clear of relegation zone. Santos will next face Bahia on August 25 at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.
