P unjab Kings’ batter  Prabhsimran Singh pulled off a fine two-handed catch by leaping up to bring  Suryakumar Yadav’s exquisite knock to an end in IPL 2024. The Kings hosted Mumbai Indians in the 33rd clash of the season, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on April 18, Thursday. 

PBKS, under the leadership of Sam Curran in the absence of captain Shikhar Dhawan, invited the rivals to score by winning the toss. Mumbai had a shaky start and lost their opener Ishan Kishan at just eight runs. Their veteran batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has been on the radar of several fans and experts owing to his questionable and inconsistent form shut all his critics with a brilliant knock of 78 runs. 

Prabhsimran Singh leaps up to catch Suryakumar Yadav out

Yadav’s knock ended owing to a finer by Punjab’s Prabhsimran Singh, who jumped up in the air to pull off the two-handed catch. Yadav was sent back to the hut on the second ball of the 17th over off Sam Curran’s wide yorker. The MI batter who got dismissed on ducks in two matches, scored 78 runs off 53 deliveries with a combination of seven boundaries and three maximums. 

Rilee Rossouw replaces Jonny Bairstow against Mumbai Indians

Punjab Kings benched their opener Jonny Bairstow in the game against Mumbai Indians and replaced him with Rilee Rossouw. Rossouw played his first game of the season as he came in place of Bairstow. He had a disastrous season thus far and has scored only 96 runs from six innings with an average of 16 and a strike rate of 131.50. 

On the other hand, Rossouw has played 14 games in his IPL career so far and scored 262 runs at an average of 21.83 with one half-century.
