Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs contention, following their six-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 19. Batting first after losing the toss, the home side posted a massive score of 205/7 in 20 overs but the Orange Army looked relentless in the second innings and chased down the total with 10 balls left and six wickets in hand. Abhishek Sharma shone with his bat and received the Player of the Match award for his stunning 59 off 20. During the first innings of the match, when Lucknow lost their first wicket in the form of Mitchell Marsh, captain Rishabh Pant walked into the middle and his responsibility was to produce a fine knock from his bat.

However, the southpaw, who has looked underconfident with his bat throughout the competition, put up a disastrous show against Hyderabad. This time, he fell against pacer Eshan Malinga after scoring only seven off six. His another failure displeased LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, who left the team’s balcony after his dismissal. Pant, who is the costliest player of IPL, has failed to justify his price tag this season. The left-handed batter has amassed 135 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 100.00.

Sanjiv Goenka boosts LSG’s confidence for remaining two games in the season

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka delivered his first reaction after LSG’s elimination from the IPL 2025 Taking to X, he wrote, “It’s been a challenging second half of the season, but there’s much to take heart in. The spirit, the effort, and the moments of excellence give us a lot to build on. Two games remain. Let’s play with pride and finish strong. #LSGvsSRH.”

Lucknow will conclude their campaign after taking on Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) respectively in their next two games of IPL 2025. Both Gujarat and Bengaluru have already advanced to the playoffs.
