Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a narrow four-run defeat in a high-scoring clash in IPL 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 239 runs, KKR gave a tough fight powered by skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s 61-run knock and Venkatesh Iyer’s 45 runs, followed by Rinku Singh’s heroics in the end. However, the defending champions couldn’t cross the winning line as LSG won a thriller in Kolkata.
As the KKR players were left devastated after a narrow defeat, they got a special message from none other than franchise co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. Managing Director of KKR, Venky Mysore read the message out loud which read, "It's a sad loss because we were so close, but so many good things to take away. We can fight and put up a big score… Sometimes our best is not good enough. I think it was one of those days."
“We were only one ball away, one hit away, We should not give up till the end. So let’s move on and take this experience and know this wasn’t in out hand,” the message further read.

KKR needs to avoid taking right-left theory too seriously: Mohammad Kaif slams KKR for uneven batting order while chasing 239
Kolkata Knight Riders were looking in good position to chase 239 runs against LSG till skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer were at the crease. However, the match went away from the hosts after the partnership was broken. Batters like Andre Russell and Rinku Singh who are known for scoring at quick pace were sent at the seventh and eighth position respectively. Reacting to this, former cricket Mohammad Kaif slammed KKR management for their uneven batting order while chasing a huge target against LSG.
“KKR needs to avoid taking right-left theory too seriously. When chasing 239, you can't play Rusell at No.7 and Rinku at No. 8. Way too late for your big hitters,” Kaif wrote on his X post.
