Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who is known for his outspoken attitude, was seen taking a swipe at his ex-teammate Mohammmad Hafeez on a news show. Following Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 debacle, Hafeez had said that the duo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis couldn’t deliver an International Cricket Council (ICC) title to Pakistan, rather it was Younis Khan’s leadership that made Pakistan T20 World Cup champions in 2009. Several days after Hafeez’s remark, Shoaib has retorted on the former Pakistan opener’s remark. In the mid 1990s and early 2000s, the Wasim-Waqar duo were formidable names in international cricket and both icons delivered a lot of match-winning moments to Pakistan.
"There were many instances when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis won us matches and series. Just in front of me, the duo have won us at least 60 matches together alone. He (Hafeez) is telling Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, 'Sir, you left no legacy.' Then, who left a legacy? You?" said Shoaib.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be against West Indies in July
Pakistan players are currently busy in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 and following the marquee T20 tournament, they will be away from international cricket for more than two months. Their next assignment is against the West Indies in the Caribbean Islands from July 31. In the 13-day tour, the Men in Green will be playing six white-ball matches (three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals).
The Green Shirts have been facing constant criticism from their former players and media following their disheartening performances in limited-over formats of the game. This year, they failed to defend their Champions Trophy title and also recorded a humiliating 0-3 drubbing in the ODI series in New Zealand at the hands of the BlackCaps.
