Top-order batter and Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the 50-over format, Shubman Gill once again showed his class as he smashed 95-ball 102* in the third and final ODI against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Coming into the final match ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 on the back of two consecutive fifty-plus scores, Gill went on to score a ton, helping India cross the 200-run mark.

Opening the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma, Gill began his firepower from the start. He stitched a crucial partnership with Virat Kohli, who also scored a half-century in the third ODI. Although, Gill reached his 16th ODI fifty in the 17th over, which was bowled by Adil Rashid, he then went onto to get to the three-figure mark off 95 deliviers.

With comparatively slowing down as he neared the three-digit score, Gill finally ended his century drought in the 32nd over. Mark Wood bowled a length delivery on the pads of Gill, which the Indian opener flicked past mid-on for a boundary. With this, he not only reached his seventh ODI hundred, but also became the only Indian player to score a century at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad across all three formats and in the IPL as well.

Soon after reaching the three-digit score, Gill took off his helmet and raised the bat as he brought up his usual bowing down celebration. The members of the Indian team in the dugout also stood up to acknowledge the young Indian batter. The Punjab batter also became the first Indian cricketer to score a century in his 50th ODI.

However, Gill’s inning was cut short by Adil Rashid in the 35th over. Bowling the third delivery of the over, Gill opted for a sweep shot, but the ball dipped as it passed under his bat and crashed into the stumps with the batter departing after having scored 112 off 102 deliveries.
