Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry extended support to godsister Cameron Brink by giving her a shoutout on his Instagram during the WNBA Draft coverage. The Warriors’ star is known as one of the biggest supporters and advocates for women’s basketball. Curry took to Instagram to congratulate Brink, who was one of the women's basketball stars who declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft and was selected as the number 2 pick of the night.
Brink getting the number 2 pick came as a surprise for several of her fans and left her godbrother excited. Curry took to Instagram to post a clip of the former Stanford Cardinal star giving her first interview as a member of the Los Angeles Sparks. In his Instagram story, Curry could also be heard asking for a shoutout from Brink.
Curry was heard saying, “Cameron Brink, lemme get a shoutout. Cam Brink, y’all watch out. She is on the rise.” Apart from Steph, Sonya Curry was also present during the Draft night. Notably, while Brink and Curry are not related by blood, their connection goes back decades as Brink’s mother Michelle Bain-Brink played for Virginia Tech while Sonya was a part of the Hokies’ volleyball team.
Michelle and Sonya share a close friendship and just after Cameron’s birth, her mother named Sonya as her godmother. Coming back to the 22-year-old Brink, during the Draft night, she praised Curry during her interview and said, “Right before I came here, I Facetimed Steph with Sonya, my godmother, and my mom. He is saying all these encouraging words, laughing with me. And then we FaceTime Seth and he hangs up immediately."
She added, “I love Seth, that’s just how he is. I love him so much, both of them. They’ve been such great sounding boards for me, they mean the world to me and they’ve been through this so they know what it’s like.” Notably, Brink spent her four seasons with the Stanford Cardinal, where she became one of the most decorated defenders in college basketball history and won three straight Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year awards.
