A lot of major cricket events took place on Tuesday as India and Pakistan reached the semifinals in the Men's Cricket event at the Asian Games 2023 after winning their respective matches against Nepal and Hong Kong. On the other hand, Team India's second ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up match against the Netherlands was also abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.

Before we discuss the results, let's take a look at today's matches:

Asian Games 2023: Men's Cricket

  • Bangladesh vs Malaysia: After topping Group C, Malaysia are scheduled to square off against Bangladesh in the quarterfinal of the Men's Cricket event at the Asian Games 2023 on Wednesday, October 4 at 11:30 a.m. IST. India and Pakistan have already qualified for the semi-finals with two more spots available.
  • Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka: Noor Ali Zadran's half-century helped Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by eight runs in the quarter-final fo the Men's Cricket event at the Asian Games 2023 on Wednesday morning. Afghanistan placed a target of 117 runs after losing all their wickets in 18.3 overs, however, they displayed a similar bowling performance to bowl out Sri Lanka on 108 runs in 19.1 overs.

Asian Games 2023: Men's Cricket

India vs Nepal: India beat Nepal by 23 runs to win the quarter-final in the Men's Cricket event at the Asian Games 2023. Yashasvi Jaiswal's 49-ball-100 helped India set a huge target of 203 runs as Nepal fell 23 runs short of achieving the target.

Pakistan vs Hong Kong: Pakistan thrashed Hong Kong by 68 runs in another quarterfinal to qualify for the semi-finals. Batting first, Pakistan lost early wickets, however, the tailenders scored runs to register a defendable total. Hong Kong's batting was not up to the mark as they were bowled out at 92 runs in 18.5 overs.

ODI World Cup 2023: Warm-up

Pakistan vs Australia: Australia beat Pakistan by 14 runs in the 10th and their second warm-up match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on October 3, Tuesday.  The Baggy Greens rode on Glenn Maxwell's innings of 77 runs of 71 balls as well as Cameron Green's 50* off 40 balls to post a mammoth total of 351 runs on the scoreboard.  While Pakistan were in a good spot to win the match, the Aussies pulled up gears on their bowling and bunched them out at 47.4 overs.

Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka: A brilliant batting effort by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah carried  Afghanistan to a dominant six-wicket win over Sri Lanka . During the island nation's batting,  Mendis smashed a stunning 158 in 87 balls with 19 fours and nine sixes before he retired himself out. However, after this onslaught, the Lankan batters fell apart like a pack of cards after losing the remaining eight wickets for 37 runs.

Irani Cup

Rest of India vs Saurashtra: The Rest of India defeated defending Ranji Trophy champions Saurashtra by 175 runs to win the Irani Cup 2023 title as they bowled out the home team on 79 runs in the fourth innings.  Saurashtra’s fourth-innings total is the lowest ever in Irani Cup history, the previous lowest being 83 by RoI against Bombay in 1964. Left-arm spinner  Saurabh Kumar’s six for 43 helped the ROI to clinch the victory and he also finished with a 10-wicket haul in the match.

Chris Gayle, Sanath Jayasuriya, and others to feature in Bharat Veteran Premier League 2023: 

The grand auction of the Bharat Veteran Premier League 2023 took place at The Lalit Hotel in Mumbai on October 1. The BVPL which features veteran cricket players of different countries will kick off in the city of Dehradun in December 2023. Each team will have a roster of 16 players, 10 out of them who are popular international cricketers, in the names of Chris Gayle, Sanath Jayasuriya, Michael Clarke, Christopher Mpofu, Thisara Perera, Phil Mustard, Owais Shah, Dilshan Munaweera, Shahriar Nafees and Robert Frylinck.

40,000 women in Ahmedabad to receive free passes for ODI World Cup 2023 opener - Reports

More than 40,000 women in Ahmedabad will get free passes for the opening ceremony and the first match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. According to the reports, government officials have planned to take 40,000 women to the world’s largest cricket stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium for the inaugural match of the tournament preceded by a grand opening ceremony. 

West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews shines at T20I rankings

The last seven-time Player of the Match winner for West Indies, Hayley Matthews has consolidated her No.1 T20I player spot in the ICC Rankings. Hayley smashed an unbeaten 99 followed by her career-best 132 against Australia on Monday. The Windies skipper has also moved to No. 7 on the batting rankings and No. 5 in the bowling rankings.
