Indian men’s hockey team defeated Malaysia and Japan to move into the semi-final of Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifiers. India defeated Japan 35-1 after taking down Malaysia 7-5 in the ongoing tournament. In the games that took place on August 31, the Men in Blue first encountered Malaysia and later locked horns with Japan in a lop-sided match on the same day. 


U.S Open 2023: Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka move to next round, Andy Murray knocked out


In the ongoing US Open 2023, Carlos Alcaraz won his second-round match and registered two straight sets wins against South Africa's Lloyd Harris 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 to move into the third round. On the other hand, Britain’s Andy Murray lost in straight sets and crashed out of the tournament. Murray locked horns with Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov. In the women’s event, the second seed Aryna Sabalenka moved past Britain's Jodie Burrage in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 and advanced to the third round.


Chess World Cup finalist R Praggnanandhaa And Family meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi


R Praggnanandhaa, the chess prodigy who won the silver medal at the FIDE World Cup 2023, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Thursday, August 31, along with his parents. The 18-year-old surpassed all expectations when he earned a silver medal in the recently held Chess World Cup. Although he lost to Magnus Carlsen in the summit clash, the entire nation and the world were in awe of the youngster.


Praggnanandhaa, who hails from Chennai, became the youngest Indian to reach the final of the Chess World Cup. He also became the third youngest player to qualify for the Candidates Tournament after Carlsen and Bobby Fischer. The prodigy beat World No. 3 Fabio Caruana and World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura on his way to the final.

2020 Tokyo Olympic champions Neeraj Chopra and Gianmarco Tamberi were seen pulling a daring stunt ahead of the Zurich Diamond League on August 31, Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday, Chopra said that Italy’s high jump World Champion Tamberi will support him to reach the 90m mark. During their practice session on Thursday, both the athletes were seen having fun on the training ground.
