On August 30, 2016, England smashed 444/3 against Pakistan in the One-Day International (ODI) game against Pakistan, played at Trent Bridge. Winning the toss, England captain Eoin Morgan elected to bat first. Hasan Ali got rid of opener Jason Roy in the sixth over of the match and delivered the early breakthrough to his side. However, after losing Roy, England top-order batters Alex Hales and Joe Root looked relentless against Pakistan's bowling attack and collected runs at brisk rate. Hales completed his hundred in 83 balls and built pressure on the visitors. Root also scored his fifty after playing 58 deliveries.
Hales and Root stitched a 248-run stand together for the second wicket and helped England be in a commanding position. Hales departed after hammering 171 runs off just 122 while Root went back to the dugout after amassing 85 runs off 86 balls. After the fall of both batters, Jos Buttler and skipper Morgan took the matter into their hands and thrashed the bowlers ruthlessly. Both stitched an unbroken 161-run stand for the fourth wicket off just 78 deliveries. Buttler scored an unbeaten 90 off 51 while Morgan also hoarded an unbeaten 57 off 27. England posted 444/3 in their 50 overs and it is now the third-highest team total in ODIs. With this score, the English team became the side with the highest ODI total as they shattered Sri Lanka's record 443/8 against The Netherlands, which came in July 2006.

Pakistan got bundled out on 275 while chasing the mammoth target
Pursuing the colossal target, Pakistan got bundled out at a total of 275 in 42.4 overs. Among the mainstay batters, only opener Sharjeel Khan put up a fight with his bat. The left-handed player scored 58 runs off just 30 balls. Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz strove to take the game deep but both lost their battles to Adil Rashid.
With the Men in Green reeling at 199/9 in 35.2 overs, tailender Mohammad Amir stepped up and struck a 22-ball fifty. He concluded his knock after smashing 58 runs which came in just 28 balls. Amir’s knock was studded with nine boundaries (five fours and four maximums). Riding on his innings, Pakistan diminished their margin of defeat. Alex Hales got the Player of the Match award for his batting brilliance.

The English team bettered their record of 444 as they scored 481/6 against Australia in June 2018 in Nottingham, and in June 2022, they also erected a total of 498/4 against The Netherlands in Amstelveen.
