Four-time Grand Slam champion Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn from the China Open due to an injury which she picked up during her outstanding US Open campaign. In the final of the marquee competition at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Sabalenka outclassed America’s Amanda Anisimova. In the last edition of the China Open, the Belarusian advanced to the quarter-finals. This year, Sabalenka has looked superb as she played three Grand Slam finals and got success in the final major event, held in the United States. This year, the tournament will be played at the National Tennis Centre in Beijing from September 24 to October 5.

A week ahead of the event, the organisers released a statement which disclosed her unavailability in the competition, writing, “Aryna has not fully recovered from the injury she sustained during the US Open, and will miss the 2025 China Open." The organisers also quoted the 27-year-old’s statement, which read, “I am going to focus on recovery, and strive to quickly return to the court at 100 percent. I can’t wait to see my Chinese fans soon. I look forward to returning to Beijing next year."

Coco Gauff to enter 2025 China Open as reigning champion

Coco Gauff will enter the 2025 China Open as the defending champion. In the previous installment of the tournament, she beat Czech’s Karolina Muchova in the final. Before squaring off against Muchova, she got the better of Ukraine's Yuliia Starodubtseva in the quarter-finals and Spain’s Paula Badosa in the semi-finals.

This year, Guaff won the French Open, defeating Aryna Sabalenka. However, following her triumph, Gauff looked ordinary in the US Open, played from August 24 to September 7. Her journey in the competition concluded in the fourth round after losing against Naomi Osaka.
