Philadelphia Phillies’ Rafael Marchan struck a three-run home run in the ninth innings as the visiting team looked brisk in the chase for the best record in the National League by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani in a 9-6 win on September 16. Brandon Marsh and Max Kepler homered in a six-run sixth innings for the Phillies, who won despite Shohei Ohtani struggling in the initial phase of the innings on the mound before adding his 50th home run of the season at the plate. Cristopher Sanchez splurged four runs on seven hits over seven innings to give time for the Phillies to rally. Tanner Banks pitched two-thirds of an inning to earn the win. Jhoan Duran also tossed a 1-2-3 ninth innings for his 31st save of the year.
It was Philadelphia Phillies 15th win in their last 19 games and remained 1 1/2 games behind the NL-best Milwaukee Brewers with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season. Ohtani hit five and walked on the mound for the Dodgers. He went deep in the eighth innings and became the sixth player of all time with consecutive seasons of at least 50 home runs.
