The inaugural season of the South African Twenty20 league (SA20) will take place in the January-February window in 2023, clashing with parts of Big Bash League in Australia, ILT20 in UAE, and BPL in Bangladesh. 

Ahead of the inaugural season, SA20 franchises bought players in the auction held on September 19 as Durban's Super Giants (DSG) roped in Dwaine Pretorius and Heinrich Klaasen among others.

The Durban based franchise is owned by the owners of the recent entrant in the IPL, Lucknow Super Giants.

Durban's Super Giants are owned by RPSG group and selected star players like, South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock, Windies all-rounders Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers, England bowler Reece Topley and local star Prenelan Subrayen in pre-acquisition process.
