Irfan Pathan, the former Indian cricketer, shared his views about how he would like to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli take part in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 39-year-old was speaking on the Star Sports live studio show before the first T20I of the three-match series between South Africa and India at the Kingsmead in Durban.

The start of the first T20I was scheduled to be at 7:30 PM IST, but the frequent rains in the city of Durban have delayed the South Africa versus India match on Sunday, December 10. The Indian cricket team have arrived on the South African shores to play a full tour comprising three T20Is, followed by three ODIs and two Tests culminating in early January.

Talking about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20I cricket, they haven’t donned the Indian jersey in the format since the national team lost the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in 2022 against England by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval. Over the past year, both these senior players of Team India have focused their attention solely on the ODI and Test formats, managing to reach the finals of the WTC and CWC.

The comment from Irfan Pathan about liking to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play for India in the T20 World Cup 2024 has come after their stellar performances at the ODI World Cup 2023. During the quadrennial spectacle, Kohli was the player of the tournament, scoring 765 runs at an average of 95.62 with three hundreds, while Rohit Sharma, who was captaining the Indian cricket team, notched up 597 runs at an average of 54.27 with one hundred.
