Star wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul is likely to make his return in India’s T20I side after his heroics with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025. The right-handed batsman has been on the sidelines in the Indian team in the shortest format after India’s semi-final exit in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Now, as per the report by the Times of India, Rahul is set to be a part of the Indian squad for the T20I series in Bangladesh starting at the end of August 2025.
KL Rahul had a great season with the bat for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. He is DC”s highest run getter this year with 493 runs in 11 matches at an average of 61.62 and a strike rate of 148.04. He also scored his fifth IPL hundred in the last game against Gujarat Titans and has also completed 8000 runs in his T20 career. His stellar performance in IPL can lead to his return in the T20I format for India after more than two and half years.
Will KL Rahul play in 2026 T20 World Cup?
The last T20I match KL Rahul played for India was the semi-final of the T20 World Cup against England in Adelaide on November 10, 2022. The Men in Blue suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat in that game and were knocked out from the tournament as England chased the target of 169 runs in just 16 overs. KL Rahul could only score five runs in that game and had a disappointing campaign with the bat in that tournament scoring 128 runs from six matches at an average of 21.33.
After that game, KL Rahul hasn’t played a T20I match for India and also wasn’t included in the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2024. He alos wasn’t impressive with his batting in the IPL but now it looks like he got his form back in the shorter format of the game. Now, this has also increased his chances to be a part of the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup that is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.
