Madhura Dhamgaonkar marked her dream return with an impressive 139-138 victory over US’s Carson Krahe. She bagged her maiden individual World Cup gold medal in the Archery World Cup Stage 2, underway in Chaina's Shanghai. Madhura made a comeback in the international stage after three years. She was seen trailing 81-85 following an expensive seven in the third end. However, the 24-year-old didn’t lose hope and displayed composure in the crunch situation. She dropped one point in a near-flawless fourth end and levelled the score at 110-all.

In the final stages, she showcased courage with a couple of perfect 10s, both X scores of arrows closer to the centre, and a 9 to surpass Krahe by just one point in an intriguing finish. With this success, Madhura has registered her third success at the illustrious event. Earlier, she won a silver in the women’s team event and a bronze in the mixed-side competition allying with Abhishek Verma. Talking about her performance after the victory against Krahe, Madhura said, “I’ve improved a lot of things. I have been working on my mental strength and my shooting skills.”

Madhura Dhamgaonkar’s coach feels the 24-year-old has a long way to go

Noting Dhamgaonkar’s sensational performance, her coach Pravin Sawant revealed how the youngster worked diligently to represent India at the highest level. However, he also added that the young player has a long way to go as she is heading towards some marquee tournaments.

“After she joined our academy two years back, we worked on technical, equipment and mental aspects of her game. Bigger events, such as the World championships and the Olympics, are coming up. She has a long way to go,” said Dhamgaonkar’s coach Sawant while speaking to Sportstar. Besides Madhura, India’s men’s team comprising Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale and Rishabh Yadav defeated Mexico 232-228 in a thrilling final to bag a gold medal.
