Chennai Super Kings (CSK) again failed to be disciplined as a batting unit against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Batting first after losing the toss, CSK faced the first blow in the form of opener Shaik Rasheed, who fell against Mohammed Shami on the first delivery of the match. In a surprise move, CSK promoted Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja but both looked ineffective. However, Dewald Brevis displayed fighting spirit and played a fierce knock of 42 off 25. After his fall in the 13th over, Chennai kept on losing wickets regularly and got bundled out on 154 in 19.5 overs.
MS Dhoni, who came to bat at number eight, also failed to be impactful as the veteran fell against Harshal Patel after scoring only six off 10. Noting CSK's underwhelming batting show and Dhoni’s failure, netizen vented their anger on social media platforms. An X user named Krishna wrote, “I have been watching cricket for 14 years, and I've never seen a more overrated player than MS Dhoni. #CSKvSRH.”

Harshal Patel donned the role of wrecker-in-chief in the crucial contest. The pacer bowled his four overs and claimed figures of 4/28. During his spell, he hunted the scalps of Sam Curran, Brevis, Dhoni, and Noor Ahmad. Earlier, Harshal bagged a four-wicket haul against Punjab Kings (PBKS) as well.
Supporting Harshal, captain Pat Cummins also took two wickets in his four overs. Australia speedster splurged only 21 runs in his spell. Jaydev Unadkat, who is playing his third match of the competition, also chipped in with 2/21 figures in his 2.5 overs.
