India continued their dominance in Test cricket against Australia as they retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) with a six-wicket win in Delhi on February 19, 2023. Rohit Sharma-led Indian side wrapped up the Test match in just three days to take a lead of 2-0 in a four-match series. Later on, India went on to win the BGT 2023 by 2-1 and won their fourth consecutive Test series against Australia.
Talking about the match, Australia were bowled out for 263 runs in the first innings with Usman Khawaja top scoring with 81(125) runs, hitting 12 fours and a six. Apart from that, Peter Handcomb also remained unbeaten on 72*(142) runs with nine boundaries as the Aussies crossed the 260-run mark. For India, Mohammed Shami took four scalps, while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja scalped three wickets each.

In reply to Australia’s total, India were bowled out for 262 runs as Australia took a lead of just one run. After the top order failed to score big, Axar Patel shone with 74(115) runs, hitting nine fours and three sixes as India went this close to Australia’s total. After that, Ravindra Jadeja registered the best figures of his Test career as Australia couldn’t give India a competitive target. Jadeja registered figures of 7/42 as the visitors were bowled out for 113 runs giving India a target of 115 runs to win.
Along with Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin ended up taking three wickets in the second innings. Chasing the winning target, skipper Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara scored 31 runs each, while Srikar Bharat scored 23*(22) runs as India chased the winning target in the second session of day three to retain the BGT in 2023.
