During the first innings of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the latter’s captain Shubman Gill displayed his aggressive side. In the initial overs of the match, GT made some major errors while fielding. These mistakes irked Shubman but he didn’t lose hope and took the matter into his own hands. The star GT player held his nerves and grabbed three crucial catches while serving his side as a fielder. His excellent efforts sent dangerous MI batters Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, and Naman Dhir back to the dugout cheaply.
After picking up one of the catches, Gill stared at the Wankhede crowd and showed the gesture of silence with his index finger. With his action, the 25-year-old gave a message to MI supporters that GT were back into the game. His sensational fielding emboldened Titans’ bowlers, who restricted Mumbai to an average total of 155/8.
GT heading towards the target gradually
Pursuing the target of 156, Gujarat lost their opener Sai Sudharsan early in the second over of the match. The southpaw fell against veteran speedster Trent Boult after scoring only five runs. Following his dismissal, Gill and Jos Buttler stood at the crease and stitched a 72-run stand for the second wicket off 61 balls. Buttler lost his wicket to the young left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar in the 12th over of the innings. The wicketkeeper-batter chipped in with his 30 runs off 27 balls.
As of writing, GT are 94/2 in 13 overs, with Gill (unbeaten 36 off 40) and Sherfane Rutherford (unbeaten 15 off eight) at the crease. Rutherford has participated in the game as an impact player, replacing Prasidh Krishna in the playing XI.
