Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed his opinion on the upcoming high-octane contest between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025. Following the Pahalgam Attack in April, public sentiment in India emerged which called for the complete boycott of Pakistan. After three months of the dastard attack in Kashmir, when it was revealed that both India and Pakistan are clubbed in one group for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, the debate arose whether India should play against its neighbour, who are accused of sponsoring the Pahalgam attack in the valley.

Ganguly was asked to disclose his views on the latest development and he took a different stance by saying that he is fine with India and Pakistan placed in the same group of the continental competition. "I’m okay, I’m okay. Sport must go on. At the same time, Pahalgam should not happen but sport must go on," said Ganguly in a chat with ANI. On the question of cross-border terrorism, Ganguly said that it has to end and India has taken a firm stance against it. "Terrorism has to stop. Terrorism can not go on. I think India has taken a strong stance to terrorism, that’s past. Just make sure that doesn’t happen but sport needs to be played," added former India skipper.

Team India’s Asia Cup 2025 schedule

As per the Asia Cup 2025 schedule, Team India will kick off their campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10. India and Pakistan are scheduled to clash on September 14. As both sides are expected to advance to the Super 4 round, they can be seen squaring off against each other twice in the tournament.

This time, the continental tournament will be played in T20I format. India entered the competition as defending champions as they became the champions after beating Sri Lanka in the previous edition of the Asia Cup 2023 final.
