I never thought he would end up playing for India: Anshul Kamboj’s father on his Test debut

Anshul Kamboj became the 318th player to represent India in the Test format as he received his Test cap from Deep Das Gupta ahead of the Manchester Test. However, Anshul’s father Uddham Singh, who put him in cricket academy so that he could lose some weight, didn’t have any idea that he would end up playing for India one day.

“It all started with me wanting him to lose some weight. I had specifically asked Satish Rana (Kamboj’s childhood coach) to make him bowl," Udham Singh said in his interview with Times of India.

“He was overweight, and I just wanted to get him back in shape. I never thought he would end up playing for India. But the day I took him to the academy, he got hooked on the game, and it became his life," he added.
