Indian skipper Shubman Gill recently achieved a major milestone in the ongoing fifth Test against England at The Oval as he amassed most runs as an Indian captain in the Test series. Gill broke Sunil Gavaskar’s 732-run records in the 1978-79 series against West Indies to top the list. He was also looking in good touch in the ongoing fifth Test in London before he lost his wicket via a terrible run-out.
Talking about the match, coming to bat first after losing the loss, India lost their first wicket in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal (2) at the score of 10 runs in 3.1 overs. After that, KL Rahul (14) and Sai Sudharsan were taking the innings further steadily before Chris Woakes cleared Rahul’s stumps as India were reduced to 38/2 after 15.1 overs. After that, captain Shubman Gill joined Sudharsan at the crease.
India suffers big blow after Shubman Gill’s dismissal via runout
After India were reduced to 38/2, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan took the innings further as the duo went on to put up a partnership of 45 runs and set a momentum for a big partnership. However, the things changed during the 28th over by Gus Atkinson. Gill went on to play the off-length delivery by Atkinson on a backfoot which landed on the middle of the pitch. Spon after playing the delivery, Gill went for a single but Sudharsan denied. Before Gill could return back to his crease, Atkinson made a perfect throw as the stumps were dismantled before Indian skipper entered the crease.
Shubman Gill got out after scoring 21 runs off 35 balls hitting four boundaries and failed to get a big score. India were at 85/3 before the rain stopped the play again on day one of the fifth Test. Currently, Sudharsan (28*) is unbeaten at the crease along with Karun Nair.
