The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League has been subject to a lot of controversy and criticism from the fans and the experts. The tensions between franchises have risen on social media and the exchanges haven’t been the most friendliest of ones. Recently, there was a controversy between Arshdeep Singh and Tilak Varma as the Punjab Kings pacer called the batter “andhera”. The racist remark had caught much of the attention on social media and the fans did not receive it well as such.

This hasn’t been the first time that a controversy has taken place in this edition of the IPL as it has been filled with controversies all throughout. There was an issue of guidelines by the BCCI based on the request of a franchise owner based on the alleged leak of sensitive information by a player’s girlfriend. They have tightened up on the accommodation rules of players and their relatives and BCCI has asked the players to beware about honey traps.

1)Arshdeep Singh’s racist remark on Tilak Varma

Prior to the match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, Arshdeep Singh addressed Tilak Varma as “andhera” and he asked if he was wearing sunscreen. The fans did not take it lightly as they felt like he offended the player’s feelings by making fun of his skin colour. The Mumbai Indians replied to it with a cryptic post and it was a hilarious dig at the Punjab Kings pacer. Once again, Arshdeep Singh was thrown under the bus for a controversy in his vlog.

2)Yuzvendra Chahal vaping on flight

The Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh filmed a vlog on flight which showed Yuzvendra Chahal attempting to conceal his e-cigarette. This was the second vaping incident in the tournament and the fans were surprised that no legal action was taken as the item was banned in the country. Since that incident, the Punjab Kings issued strict warning to Arshdeep Singh over filming vlogs in the team environment.

3)Tim David’s obscene gesture against Mumbai Indians

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru star was under scrutiny in the game against the Mumbai Indians when he flicked the middle finger from the dugout after RCB secured a thrilling victory off the last ball of the game. It was obvious that he was visibly frustrated with his dismissal and the officiating from the umpires. He was handed a serious fine and was given demerit points for the gesture that he had shown.

4)BCCI’s warning regarding honey traps

The Board of Control for Cricket in India was allegedly warned by a franchise owner under suspicion of an IPL player’s girlfriend leaking the sensitive information of a team. Due to this incident, the BCCI issued guidelines against the accommodation and travel of players. The team managers were alerted that strict security clearance had to be provided for all the players who wished to exit the team environment.
