English skipper Jos Buttler heaped praise on Rohit Sharma after the Indian captain smashed a hundred against his side in the second ODI in Cuttack on Sunday, February 9. With the help of Rohit’s match-winning 119(90) runs, India assured ODI series win over England with a lead of 2-0. After the match, Buttler also couldn’t resist himself in praising the opening batter for his quickfire ton.
At the post match press conference, Jos Buttler mentioned that it becomes crucial for his team to put pressure on big players like Rohit Sharma to get ahead in the game. “It’s probably a nice reminder for all of us that if someone of Rohit’s caliber can be under pressure, we should be a bit easier on ourselves. He's been a great player for such a long period of time, and top players generally come up with the goods, and he obviously did that today,” Buttler said.
Rohit showed modern way of playing 50-over cricket: Jos Buttler
Speaking further, Jos Buttler also heaped praise on Rohit Sharma’s ability to absorb pressure and also advised his teammates to follow the same and turn on the attacking mode at the right time. “Any time you're playing against great players and they're playing an innings like that, I'm sure players on both sides will be watching and learning. He played a brilliant innings and (displayed) how he can go up and down the gears and absorb pressure, putting a lot of pressure back on (the opponent),” Buttler said.
“He (Rohit Sharma really showed (that) in this day and age, in the modern sort of way of playing 50-over cricket, it's very dynamic, very aggressive. He scored at a rate that just confirms, really, that the way we want to play is the right way that you have to play to try and win games in cricket. The way Rohit played showed that the way we want to play our cricket is the correct way to play cricket,” the England captain concluded.
